Active since 1971, the Haut-Richelieu Museum is located in the heart of Old Saint-Jean. It occupies two buildings that were merged in 2003. The front part dates back to 1858 and has been an important gathering place, hosting balls, public markets, concerts, and more. The back part, built in 1876 after a major fire, is known as the Pump Station, named after the Silsby fire pump. This pump, classified as a cultural asset, is still housed there! Thus, the museum showcases history... in the heart of history! The museum contributes to the diffusion of regional history and the promotion of ancient and contemporary Quebec ceramics. Ceramics have played a significant role in the region's history, as it was one of the dominant sectors of the regional economy between 1840 and 1940.
