Classified as a heritage building by the provincial government in 1976 and recognized as a national historic site by the federal government in 2000, the Moulin Légaré is a precious witness to the history of Saint-Eustache. Founded in 1762, the mill has undergone many changes over the years, both in the building and the mechanisms. And yet, it remains the oldest water-powered flour mill in North America to have been continuously in use since it was built. A true window on the past, it offers today’s visitors the chance to discover their history—and even to taste it, by purchasing some of the wheat and buckwheat flour and regional products on sale.
The Espace muséal of the Manoir Globensky—built in 1861 for Lord Charles-Auguste-Maximilien Globensky—presents exhibitions and activities that showcase Saint-Eustache history and heritage.
Enjoy a getaway for two in the heart of historic Vieux-Saint-Eustache. Your visit begins with a 60-minute guided tour of the Moulin Légaré. Built in 1762, it remains the oldest water-powered flour mill in North America to have been continuously in use since it was built. Every year, the millers produce between 30 and 40 tons of wheat and buckwheat flour. Your visit continues at the Espace muséal of the Manoir Globensky where a guide will tell you all about the manor’s history and inhabitants. Finally, you will leave with a gift bag including the books Un moulin au fil de l’eau and L’église de Saint-Eustache, as well as a gift of 1 kg of wheat flour and 1 kg of buckwheat flour. To finish up, why not explore the six frescoes painted on the different buildings along Saint-Eustache Street? A historically enriching getaway!
